Prayer Taxonomy

A goal that I am working toward is the development of a prayer taxonomy. A complete prayer taxonomy will reflect an array of organizing principles that can flexibly categorize diverse types of prayer. These principles may include:

  • mode
  • medium
  • intention
  • activity
  • attention
  • content/qualia
  • supernatural agent
  • level of devotion
  • self-reference
  • bodily posture
  • physical environment
  • social context
  • sacred items
  • internal grace
  • physiological state effects
  • historical tradition

Prayer Science

I am striving to incorporate empirical data and scientific perspectives into a multidisciplinary, integrative study of prayer. This will be a long-term effort. This long-term effort in prayer science is work that I will be conducting through my  Neurospirituality Lab and my forthcoming Neurospirituality Institute.

Prayer Theology

The integrative study of prayer that I am undertaking aims to systematically represent both the speculative and the mystical dimensions of prayer theology.

More coming here soon.
