ANGEL OPUS
Angel Opus, composed by Michael Ferguson, is an original work of sacred music set in ten movements.
The opus has been performed in its entirety at the Holy Rosary Shrine (Lawrence, Massachusetts), the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Boston, Massachusetts), and Saint Ignatius Parish (Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts).
Angel Opus
Movement 1
Expellamus omnia profana. Amen.
Let us expel all that is profane. Amen.
Invocabimus cherubim et seraphim.
We shall invoke the cherubim and the seraphim.
Movement 2
Canamus cum angelis,
Let us sing with the angels,
Asomatis supernis.
The supreme disembodied souls.
Cantemos ya con San Miguel,
Let us sing with Saint Michael,
El Principe Celestial.
The Celestial Prince.
Cantemos ya con Gabriel,
Let us sing with Gabriel,
La Fuerza Celestial.
The Celestial Strength.
Cantemos ya con Rafael,
Let us sing with Raphael,
El Sanador Celestial.
The Celestial Healer.
Cantemos por La Reina,
Let us sing for The Queen,
La Madre Celestial.
The Celestial Mother.
Cantemos de su gran amor,
Let us sing of her great love,
Del cielo la hermosa flor.
The beautiful flower of heaven.

Et ingressus Gabriel ad eam dixit:
And thus said Gabriel to her:
“Ave Maria, gratia plena, dominus tecum.
“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus.”
You are blessed among women.”
Regina angeli,
Queen of the angel,
Regina caeli.
Queen of heaven.
Movement 4
Benedicta gloria Domini de loco suo.
Blessed is the glory of the Lord from his place.
Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus Dominus, Deus;
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts;
plena est omnis terra gloria eius.
the whole earth is full of his glory.
Movement 5
We wrestle against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world.
Movement 6
Etenim sacramentum regis abscondere bonum est:
For it is good to hide the secret of a king:
opera autem Dei revelare et confiteri honorificum est.
but honourable to reveal and confess the works of God.
Qui autem faciunt peccatum hostes sunt animæ suæ.
They that commit sin are enemies to their own soul.
Movement 7
San Miguel arcangel, defiendenos en la lucha.
Saint Michael archangel, defend us in the battle.
Con el poder que dios ha conferido,
With the power that God has conferred,
arroja al infierno a satanas.
thrust Satan into hell.
O principe de la militia celestial!
O prince of the heavenly militia!
Movement 8
Et stabit et pascet in fortitudine Domini in sublimitate,
He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord,
Nominis Domini Dei sui.
In the majesty of the name of the Lord his God.
Et convertentur quia nunc magnificabitur usque ad terminos terrae.
And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.
Movement 9
Quis est iste rex gloriae?
Who is he, this King of glory?
Dominus virtutum ipse est rex gloriae.
The Lord Almighty is the King of glory.
Interlude: Mysterium Angelorum
Oh vos omnes qui transitis per viam
Oh all you who pass this way
attendite et videte si est dolor sicut dolor meum.
attend and see if there is pain like my pain.
God so loved the world
that he gave his only son,
that whosoever should believe in him
should not perish, but have eternal life.
God sent not his son to condemn the world,
but that through him it might be saved
and have eternal life; have everlasting life.

Agnus dei qui tollis pecata mundi, miserere nobis.
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.

Agnus dei qui tollis pecata mundi, dona nobis pacem.
Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, grant us peace.
